Florida Time to Camp
When it comes to camping in Florida honestly there is no time throughout the year that the experience would not be great, however, you may wish to know more about the temperatures expected, when tourists make an area more crowded, or learn more about when wildlife is abundant.
We will start at the beginning of the year and tell you what to expect throughout the year in regards to camping in Florida.
January and February are the months that you will not see as many tourists in the theme parks. All the major attractions will also have fewer visitors so you will enjoy shorter lines. As for the weather, the days are rather warm without being too warm with cooler nights. Of course, this does depend on the region of Florida you wish to visit. Camping in the northern part of Florida during these months can be quite cold while southern Florida is much warmer.
During January and February, however, you will find what the local call Snow Birds, these are residents of the northern US that have a home in Florida as well to avoid the cold and wintry weather that is found in the northern states.
Camping during the off-season as it is called can be quite a bit cheaper as well since they lower their prices to entice campers. However, you had better keep an eye on the temperatures in northern Florida as it can get down to freezing. Of course, you will not have to worry about insects in January and February.
March and April is one of the most popular times for many to visit Florida. Easter Break from schools often has several families enjoying the warm and beautiful weather that Florida has to offer. Remember, though this is the time when families are coming to visit the theme parks and enjoy camping as well, so you may have a hard time finding a campground especially close by theme parks.
May and June slow down a bit from the touristy time of March and April as many families must have their children back home for school. May has nice temperatures that are warm but are not too extreme. June begins the rainy season in Florida; however, this does not mean that it will rain all day long. Generally, a nice small rain shower will quickly blow over and you will have plenty of sunshine.
July and August are called peak season. This is summer at its finest. However, temperatures are known to go as high as into the 90’s and above. Theme parks will be crowded as children are out of school and families are on vacation, this means the campgrounds will also be crowded.
September, family travel slows down again as school time is on. The temperatures fall into the 80’s and the humidity drops as well. The campgrounds are not as crowded and you can enjoy cheaper prices once again. The prices may not be as low as you see in January and February however; they are not as high as you see in July and August.
October and November the temperatures drop again to between 70 and 80 degrees Fahrenheit. Nights will be a bit cooler and you may need a light jacket. The weather for camping is awesome, less tourist, and of course not as many insects as the weather is beginning to become cooler.
December is a busy time once again in Florida. Many families enjoy taking their children to Florida during their Christmas vacation time. The campgrounds may not be as crowded; however, temperatures are quite a bit cooler and may even be cold at night in the northern part of the state.
